A very loud instrument, made from dried hollowed gourd (pumpkin) surrounded with a net with cowry shells. The end part of the gourd is held in one hand, while the other hand pulls the net upwards with rapid movements. When the shells strike the gourd, it produces a loud shrill sound. The rattle is played throughout West Africa.
