The rattle shekere is made from dried, hollowed gourd covered with synthetic beads connected by a net of string.   In Nigeria, the Yoruba people often play three shekere simultaneously, differing from one another by the pitch of the tone.  The musicians in Ghana hang sometimes the shekere around the neck and strike the net with synthetic beads with their hands.

This rattle is a frequently used instrument in Cuban music.
