A metal means of payment in the form of an armlet or an ankle bracelet.  It is decorated on the outer side with geometrical patterns.

Manilas are open armlets made of copper of brass.  They differ in size, form and ornaments.  They were used  in West Africa as a means of exchange prior to the arrival of European traders.  From the 16th century onwards, when trade with the Europeans developed to a considerable extent, their use increased.
